Is Your Mobile Ready for Emergencies?

By Teltech ICT
Mobile Emergency

When it comes to calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency, your mobile phone needs to be reliable — even if your primary network is down.

Telstra recently discovered that some older mobile devices, especially certain Samsung models, may fail to connect to alternative networks like Vodafone when trying to make an emergency call. This means that in a critical moment, your phone might not be able to reach help.

🚨 What’s the Issue?

Normally, if your main mobile network (like Telstra) isn’t available, your phone should automatically switch to another network (like Optus or Vodafone) to make a Triple Zero call. However, some older devices aren’t doing this correctly — and that’s a serious concern.

🔍 Which Devices Are Affected?

Telstra has listed several older Samsung models that either:

  • Need a software update, or
  • Must be replaced entirely to ensure emergency call functionality.

If your device is more than 7 years old, it’s time to check whether it’s still safe to use.

✅ What Should You Do?

  • Check your device model and software version
  • Update your phone if possible
  • Consider upgrading to a newer device that supports VoLTE and emergency calling standards
