ST500

ST500 – the smart video softphone for your desk phone

Tap this icon to launch NEC’s UNIVERGE ST500 soft-phones for Android.

It allows you to easily make and receive voice and video calls.

You get access to your contacts, a list of favourite’s and a detailed call history.

You can also start the application by picking up the hand piece or tapping the phone icon on the right of the home screen.

NOTE: that the icon may not be on the home screen depending on your configuration, but you can easily move it there if required.

NEC App Store

NEC’s digital distribution platform

The NEC App Store is NEC’s specialised distribution platform that allows users to access apps compatible to NEC devices.

Browser

This is a basic browser application that allows users to access the web.

Notification Area

This is the notification area that displays application or system notifications, some notifications include internect connectivity, ongoing calls etc.

Dialler

The call screen shortcut is used to navigate to the dialler to make a call.

People

This is the management contacts shortcut used to access the caller directory.

Volume Down

Tap to turn down the call volume and media volume.

Volume Up

Tap to turn up the call volume and media volume.

Home

Tap to go back to the Home screen; or touch and press for about 2 seconds to take a screen shot.

Menu

Tap to view options for different screens or applications.

Back

Tap to go back to the precious menu.

Power

Contact Information

Your favourites screen contains a list of the contacts that you have “Starred” from the Contacts screen.

All details come from your phone’s in-built contacts/phone book.

Each line will show you:

  • The photo of the person.
  • The person’s name.
  • The number that will be called when you tap the phone/video icon on the right.

Video Call a Favourite

When you tap the video icon, the ST500 will immediately begin to call the selected number as a video call.

Call a Favourite

Tap the phone icon to call the selected number.

  • Tap to the icon to make a call.
  • Tap and hold the icon to make a hands-free call.

Search Favourites

Tap the search icon to search for your favourite contacts.

An entry field will appear above the tabs and your keyboard should automatically appear.

The list of favourites displayed will be filtered as you type.

  • Tap the “x” in the search box to clear the filter.
  • Tap it again to remove the search box.

Favourites Menu

Tap to show the Favourites screen menu.

  • Delete all of your favourite contacts.
  • Selectively Delete favourites from this screen.
  • Reorder your favourites.
  • Select profile – choose which phone number the ST500 should use.
  • Access ST500’s Settings menu.
  • Exit the ST500.

WARNING: If you exit the ST500 application you will no longer be able to receive phone calls.

Favourites

Contact Information

Your Contacts screen contains a list of the contacts that you have in your phones in-built contacts / phone book.

Each line will show you:

  • The photo of the person – if no photo is available a default picture will be shown.
  • The person’s name.
  • The company name where the person works, or blank if the information is unavailable.

Search

A list of the contacts phone numbers is shown, with the phone type followed by the actual phone number.

To call the contact on that number, simply tap the phone or video icons on the right.

Search

If the company or job title are not available for the contact they will not be displayed.

Call Contact

Tap the phone icon to call the selected number.

If the phone has a “star” on it, it is selected as a favourite number and will appear on the Favourites screen.

  • Tap the icon to make a call.
  • Tap and hold the icon to make a hands-free call.

Video Call Contact

When you tap the video icon, the ST500 will immediately begin to call the selected number as a video call.

If the video icon has a “star” on it, it is selected as a favourite number and will appear on the Favourites screen.

Contacts Photo

The photo of the contact (from your phones phone book).

If no photo is available a default photo will be displayed as shown below.

Edit Contact Details

Tap to edit the contacts details in your phones default contact management application.

Add to Favourites

Click the “Star” to add a selected number (and dial method) to your Favourites screen.

This is a great way to ensure the people that you contact often are just a tap away.

When you click the Star, your screen will darken and you can then tap the phone and video numbers that you would like to show on your Favourites screen.

Number To Dial

As you tap numbers, they will appear here.

To delete a number press the delete button to the right.

Once the number is correct you can press the green voice call or blue video call buttons.

Key 1

Tap to add the number 1 to the number that will be dialled.

Key 2

Tap to add the number 2 to the number that will be dialled.

If you are dialling a number like 123 NEC, then tap this button to represent the letters A,B or C.

Key 3

Tap to add the number 3 to the number that will be dialled.

If you are dialling a number like 123 NEC, then tap this button to represent the letters D,E or F.

Key 4

Tap to add the number 4 to the number that will be dialled.

If you are dialling a number like 123 NEC, then tap this button to represent the letters G,H or I.

Key 5

Tap to add the number 5 to the number that will be dialled.

Key 6

Key Star

Tap to add a Star (asterisk) to the number that will be dialled.

The Star is often used for dialling special internal numbers or access codes.

If you need to add a pause to the number you want to dial, press and hold the star button to insert a comma.

Key 0

Tap to add the number 0 to the number that will be dialled.

If you need to add a plus (+) to the number you want to dial, press and hold the 0 button.

A plus is often used to dial international numbers.

Key Hash

Tap to add a Hash symbol to the number that will be dialled.

This is sometimes referred to as “pound”.

The Hash is often used for dialling special internal numbers or access codes.

Shortcuts

Tap to show the shortcut menu.

From here you can predefine a number of shortcuts (like setting call forwards or dialling specific numbers).

Start a Voice Call

  • If you have entered a number, tap the icon to make a call.
  • If you have entered a number, tap and hold the icon to make a hands-free call.
  • If you have not entered a number, tap the icon to show the last number you dialled in the entry field.

Start a Video Call

  • If you have entered a number, tap the icon to make a video call.
  • If you are using an Android phone running an Android version older than 4.4 this button is not available.

Call Activity

The call history is by default grouped by person – this is configurable in the settings.

Each line shows you the call status, number of calls, the person’s name, number and the time of the last call.

The status will be one of the following;

  • Tap the “x” in the search box to clear the filter.
  • Tap it again to remove the search box.

From the Contacts screen, you can swipe to the left to move to the Call screen.

Edit History Details

Tap to edit the contact in your phones default contact management application.

If the call is from someone that is not in your contact list, then a new contact will be created.

Caller Details

Shows you the name and number of the person that you are talking to.

The name will only show if the person is stored in your phones contacts.

If the contact details are not available you can go to the call history, click edit and it will add a new contact to your phone.

Call Duration

Shows you the number of hours : minutes : seconds that you have been on the call.

The timer only shows when you are connected.

Callers Photo

The photo of the contact (from your phone book).

If no photo is available a default photo will be displayed as shown below.

Hang-up

Press this button to hang-up on the call.

Speaker

Pressing this button will allow you to choose your audio device.

icon-speaker1 You’re using handset mode (hold the phone to your ear to communicate).

icon-speaker2 You’re using speaker (hands-free) mode.

icon-speaker3 Your Bluetooth headset is in use.

If you do not have a Bluetooth device connected, it will simply toggle between a handset and a hands-free call.

Mute

Press to toggle the microphone on or off.

Video

Tap this button to initiate a video call.

If the other party has a video capable phone they will be able to accept or decline your request.

Hold/Transfer

Hold

Tap to place the other party on hold. During this time, music will be played.

Transfer

When you have one person on hold and are talking to another, press the Transfer button to hang-up and connect the other two people.

At this point you might also see a conference button allowing you to communicate to both parties at the same time. (System dependant)

Keypad

Press to show a dial pad to allow you to dial digits.

This is especially useful when calling automated services like phone banking that require you to enter information.

Decline the Call

If the other party is calling you from an NEC phone, when you decline the call they will continue to hear ringing until the call is diverted to voicemail.

Answer as a Video Call

Tap to answer the call as a video call.

This option will only be shown if the caller rang you as a video call.

Answer as an Audio Call

Tap to answer the call as an audio only call.

Swap Cameras

When you initiate a video call by default it is using the front facing camera.

Press to toggle between the front facing camera and the rear facing camera.

This is great to allow you to show something you are looking at to the caller.

Mute

Press to toggle the microphone on or off.

Audio

Press to stop the video call and go back to a voice call.

Hang-up

Press this button to hang-up on the call.

To start UNIVERGE ST500, simply tap the ST500 icon from your Android Home Screen or application drawer.

Once installed and configured, the ST500 will launch automatically and will already be running in the background.
